Feelings
Preschool lesson plans about feelings, including arts and crafts, games, math, science, group time activities, and songs.
With my toddler class, we used this theme to enforce the concept of using words instead of actions. With older kids, you can talk about different situations and ask how each person feels.
Arts and Crafts
Smiling Face
Supply your child with a paper plate and a magazine with pictures of people in it. Have your child cut out a pair of eyes, a nose, ears, hair and of coarse a smile and glue the facial features onto a paper plate. You can add a Popsicle stick to make it a puppet.
Musical Art
Play music while the children create an art project. Try different music to set different moods.
Feelings Collage
Provide the children with magazines with people and children in them. Have the children cut out the pictures and glue them to a piece of paper. Have the children tell you how each person feels.
Feelings Art
Ask the children to create a project that shows “angry” “happy” or “sad”.
Feelings Faces
Provide the children with a variety of pre-cut facial features from magazines. Have the children glue the features on paper plates to create a face.
Feelings Faces
Have the children draw happy, sad, angry, or scared faces.
Feelings Stamp
Have children use stamps that depict different feelings on a piece of paper.
Feelings Stickers
Have children use stickers that depict different feelings on a piece of paper.
Math, Science, and Games
How Do You Feel Today?
Ask the children how they feel. Tally the results and create a graph.
Feelings Match
Create a feelings memory game with index cards and stickers.
Feelings Sort
On circles draw many different faces that show happy, sad and angry. Have the children sort the circle by feelings.
Songs and Group Time
The More We Get Together
Oh, the more we get together,
Together, together,
Oh, the more we get together,
The happier we’ll be.
For your friends are my friends,
And my friends are your friends.
Oh, the more we get together,
The happier we’ll be!
If You’re Happy and You Know It
If You’re Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
If You’re Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
If You’re Happy and You Know it, then your face will surely show it
If You’re Happy and You Know it, Clap your Hands
Variations:
Angry: Stomp your Feet
Sad: say boo hoo
Tired: go to sleep
Mad Stomp
Have the children stomp around the room as if they were mad. Then have them act out other feelings.
Musical Dance
Have the children dance to a variety of music. What feeling do you think the music is trying to convey?
